TEXT BOOKS NO LONGER FREE IN T&T

Education Minister Anthony Garcia

On the eve of the Prime Minister's address to the nation came word yesterday that, from September 2016, not all pupils will be receiving free textbooks from the State.
The decision took education stakeholders by surprise.
Education Minister Anthony Garcia said the change was necessary as a result of challenging economic times.
Efforts by the Express to reach Garcia yesterday were unsuccessful but speaking on CNC3's morning talk show, Garcia said: “The Cabinet has decided that textbooks will be given to students in the Infant Department, Infants One and Two and in the lower forms of the secondary schools and also for those students who access special education.”
