YOU CAN'T MAKE IT UP

The Republicans are a funny bunch. Their style of campaigning for the Presidency seems less to do with sensible policy making and planning for the future of the country, and more to do with slinging enough mud at each other in the hopes of burying their opposition. It’s an interesting tactic, one that will surely work wonders when the time comes to select a running mate.
If the candidates making accusations about each other wasn’t strange enough, the candidates’ supporters are also getting in on the action. Enter Diana Orrock, Republican National Committee member, Nevada State Assembly hopeful and if her Twitter picture is anything to go by, make-up advisor to 80s pop-stars.

Orrock is a pretty big Donald Trump supporter. Rather than being embarrassed by her affliction though, the committeewoman advertises her stupidity all over Twitter. In her latest tweet, I don’t want to say latest and greatest because there are some awesome things on there,  Orrock posted the following:
Whoa. Way to drop a bombshell, Diana. I mean, we know about Cruz’s apparent ineligibility thanks to Donald Trump and his campaign of mayhem, but Rubio? Surely his citizenship is beyond reproach? Orrock tweeted out a link to an article written by Devvy Kidd that apparently claims otherwise. The article is awesome, I urge you to read it. I’ll break down a couple of my favorite parts:
“There is NO question Marco Rubio is ineligible. NO question since neither of his parents were U.S. citizens at the time of his birth. Rubio’s parents were foreign nationals when he was born. Rubio’s parents didn’t become U.S. citizens until he was four years old. His name should not be on any ballot in any state.”
Rubio’s legal team are already all over this, defending this accusation in court, as birther conspiracy theorist and car salesman Michael Voeltz raised the issue, just like he did with President Obama. I like the certainty with which Kidd makes her claims though. Who cares about the law or facts or any of that boring stuff when you can write inflammatory nonsense and get it published?
My favourite part of the article though, assuming she isn’t joking, is this:
“Donald Trump can take the high road on this by stating there are two candidates who are not constitutionally eligible to be on the ballot, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.”
It’s an awesome sentence when you break it down. First, Kidd is assuming that Donald Trump even knows what the high road is, when nothing about his campaign so far, or his character since birth have ever shown any evidence to suggest that. Secondly, she’s implying that to take the high road, once has to drag claims of candidates birth and parentage into the media spotlight. If that’s the Republican high road, I’m happy on the low road.
It’s scary that somebody like Diana Orrock would tweet a link to that sort of nonsense. It’s scary but sadly not unexpected. Orrock is clearly a Trump supporter and a Republican. She’s firmly entrenched herself in the politics of mudslinging and aspersion casting and doesn’t seem interested in fact checking or rational thought. Orrock’s website claims that she:
“Tells it like it is” and “does things a bit differently.”
But her actions suggest otherwise. Perhaps she should change her slogans to:
‘Diana Orrock Tells It Like She Wants It To Be To Further Her Political Ambitions’ and ‘Diana Orrock Does Exactly The Same Things All Of The Other Republican Candidates Do”
So, whilst it would be nice to knock off all of the Republican candidates for eligibility reasons, in this case, I don’t think it’s going to happen. Instead, Cruz simply won’t become President not because he’s ineligible, but because he’s a terrible candidate who resembles a melting lizard, and Rubio won’t become President because his robotic brain will eventually blue screen and he’ll be locked in a never-ending reboot cycle.
